This is the Engineering and Event Blog that is maintained by the team. After each meeting one or more of the team members writes up what we did and what they enjoyed obout the meetings.

Meeting Before State

Today we got ready for State competition. We practiced our presentation today and we also practiced on the table. Four out of four runs we got 400s! We also smoothed out our presentation. It was a fun meeting and I think that we are ready for State.

State Competition

On Saturday Jan. 16, the Lego Guards attended the Nor Cal State FLL Competition in Fremont. It was a busy day filled with table runs and judging sessions (for engineering, presentation, and teamwork) and clean up, lunch, and just visiting and making friends with kids from other teams.

At the table, although the previous days at practice we made 400s, the highest we got here was a 330. We got saecond place presentation in the end. It was a great day.

Meeting on Monday Jan. 11

Today was a very productive Lego Guard Meeting.

We started off with 4 table runs, just like we get at State. One of the runs was a 400!

We did our presentation about 5 times, until we had it down really well.

Then the team had a Round Table and talked about pointers for Presentation and Teamwork Judging. We also defined specific roles for the Engineering Judging. This will help us a lot by creating better teamwork.

Then we had lunch and watched a slideshow of the PowerPuzzle World Festival. It was AMAZING

After that, we did 4 more table runs. And got 2 400s!

Then we did the presesntation 2 more times. And then we did it super fast, funny voices and over-acting. It was really fun!

We did 4 more table runs: Round 1-400    Round 2-380   Round 3-400  Round 4-380

What a great meeting!

Monday Meeting

Today, we started the day with presentation as usual, rehersing our skit and discussing Q&A.  We found some good things to correct, and did so.  After that, we had lunch and than moved on to table runs.  During our practice runs, we got 3 400 point scores out of 8 rounds.  We practiced what to do at the table, and how to encourage the table runners and other teams.  After that, I worked on documenting a program I had written, with help from Andrew.  For the rest of the day we worked on presentation.

1/11/10

Today we started out whith a robot run and we got a 400!!!! Then we practiced the presentation for a while and reviewed questions relating to that.  We ate lunch than we watched some youtube videos of the world competition two years ago. After that we did some more table runs and got two 400s!!!  For the rest of the day we worked on documenting programs and practicing presentation.

Extra table practice on Friday Jan. 10

Today Bobby and I went to Heidi's to work on running the robot. We spent a lot of time on our transitions in Base, getting them down  to about 30 seconds. We even got a few 400s! We are very excited for the State Competition!

Meeting on January 4, 2010

I am SO EXCITED about Mission 2. It is totally re-done and works liike a dream. Now, we should get 400s regularly!

Alejandro and I finished our essay for the Core Values award. The team (minus Bobby and Andrew) also did a  read-through of our new presentation!

A great meeting!

Regional Qualifying Competition

We did really well at our competition, and are advancing to the State Competition!

However, we did not win any of the individual catagory awards, which was a little disapointing yet very motivating. We have a lot of work to do!

Thank you to the Judges, Referees, Parents, Coaches, Mentors and Volunteers for a great competition!

Thanks especially to St. Francis and our hostesses the FemBots!

Monday's Meeting

This monday we started off by working on the table and different attachment ideas.  We split up into teams, and came up with an idea and worked with it.  Some of the ideas were to have a box that the robot could push out until it hit the wall, with all the loops inside of it, and than the robot would come back to base, and send a retrieving arm out to bring the box and loops back to base.  We also had an idea of a spring loaded arm that, once we got to the right place, would swing out and capture all the loops and pin them there.  After lunch, we started on the presentation.  Faith worked on the script, and made great progress, and we were able to run through it several times.  It was a great meeting!
